Witchery ~ A Witches Herbal

1

Although I rarely get to hop in a nice steamy tub any more it was one of my all time favourite magic making places. Not only are you cleansing while in the tub but it is relaxing and gives you a wee bit-o-time to reflect and focus in peace and quiet (unless your unruly 5 year old keeps banging on the door).

I usually make some sort of bath or beauty item to give as gifts during the holidays. Last year I ordered some large heat seal tea bags and I made Tub Tea! The bags were incredible easy to use. They come with one open edge that you use to fill your bag, then you simply heat the edge with your iron and Ta Da!! it's tightly shut. It's sort of a shame you can't see the lovely herbs inside but you sure can smell them.

Just think of all the magickal blends that you could make! And the bags don't leave your tub full of soggy flowers, petals or roots :)

MAKING TUB TEA

1. Gather all of your materials.
2. Start with a sea salt base.
3. Add your herbs.
4. Blend them well.
5. Add any essential oils to the mix.
6. Get your hands in there to really mix your blend up!
7. Put in a container to allow the scents to blend
8. After a week or so package your tea up and make it look lovely!

I don't like to give quantities because everyone has different tastes and you should make this to suit yours. Play around and experiment until you find something you like.

One word of advice: use all natural materials and steer clear of perfume oils. I've found that men in particular find perfume oils over powering and much prefer items that are all natural.

REVIVING BLEND

Sea Salt
I used unrefined French sea salt,
Calendula
Lavender
Rose Petals
Vanilla
Grapefruit

PACKAGING

Something that can really set your gift apart is the packaging. That little bit of effort goes a long way. For my tub tea I've made some labels that are simply attached with a little ribbon and some handmade paper. You can buy handmade paper at your local art shop but it can get pricey so you may want to try a page from an old book, a music sheet... just something to add a bit of interest to the look of the package. I should also note that I use a laser printer to print my labels as inkjet labels will run if tossed in the tub. Lastly, add a bit of magickal energy by matching your ribbon to the purpose of the herbal blend. (ie, if you create a heal blend, use a light blue ribbon to reinforce the healing energy)

0ALTERNATIVES

Can't find giant tea bags? You can use muslin, fine cotton or cheese cloth to wrap up your herbs. You can cut fabric and simply gather it with a string or you can sew little sachets that can be tossed in the tub. The little pouch to the left was bought at the local dollar store (4/$1) and would do in a pinch.

Instead of sea salt you may want to consider epsom salts or baking soda. Just keep in mind with the baking soda that if you use cheesecloth the powder will seep through the large holes.
