Chicory

Also known as Succory, Wild Succory, Hendibeh, Watcher of the Road, Blue Sailor Weed

Chicory has a very long history of both medicinal and culinary uses. It was cultivated in Egypt 5,000 years ago, as the Egyptians believed it was useful in purifying the blood and liver. Chicory is also mentioned in the oldest complete herbal on record from first century Greece.

Magical properties of chicory include; removing obstacles, hex work and purification.

The most powerful chicory is cut in silence with a silver or golden blade, on Midsummer, Summer Solstice or St. James Day (25 July). (The specifics of the gathering varies from source to source) If collected correctly Chicory is said to aid in invisibility and in opening all manner of locks when a leaf is held against them.

Use this herb in spell work intended to remove obstacles, for gaining the approval and favour of others, purification and hexing.
